How I Managed to Trust God After Quitting My Job

Hey, beautiful people! For the past few weeks, I’ve shared ways to embrace your journey when hardships arise and provided you with three strategies to break free from negative cycles. Today, I want to get comfy with you and share my testimony on how I managed to trust God after quitting my job last year.

The Process

The process began in December 2022. During that season of my life,  I felt a shaking in my spirit, sensing that 2023 would be different. Although I was not at peace, I did believe God was preparing me for something greater. As December progressed, I began to build up my faith by reading the Word and spending time in God’s presence.

Joshua 1:8

The last week of that year, a close friend invited me to a revival, held at Christ Fellowship Church in Dawsonville, Georgia.  She informed me that every Sunday evening they had revivals and during the service, a fire baptism was offered. Now, I had been baptized before, but she said this experience would be different and my spirit would be renewed. Hearing the excitement in my friend’s voice excited me. So, I agreed to join her. The night of the event, before the spiritual activities began, I sat down and prayed. During my prayer, God shared with me that deeper revelations were coming.

1 Thessalonies 5:17

Great Expectations

And, sure enough, they did! On January 1, 2023, I received a message from God about great expectations. He encouraged me to address my worries and anxieties, assuring me that He was moving within and around me. As the night progressed and we prepared for the baptism, the speaker of the hour emphasized that we didn’t need to prove anything to anyone; God already has us. This message brought me restoration, and when I entered the water, I felt an overwhelming release.

After my much-needed winter break,  a few days after the event, reality checked in as I prepared to go back to work as a part-time daycare center facilitator. However, during that time  I began experiencing horrible mouth pains near my wisdom teeth. Initially, I wasn’t thinking spiritually about it, but I later learned that such pain could signify losing something to gain greater discernment.

A Shift on the Horizon

A shift was on the horizon and I just knew God was up to something.

Habakkuk 2:3

Despite the tough days, I held on, trusting in God and believing that His promise would come to pass.  In March 2023,  I felt in my spirit the nudge to go on a fast to see what God’s prophetic flow looked like for that quarter. During the fast, God informed me it was time to let go of my job and trust Him even more. Although I was excited to leave, I admit it was difficult, however, I  assured God had something greater in store. After leaving, I experienced several months without a steady income, which was challenging. Bills were overdue, and I was seeking God while living with my mom.

Even in those tough months, I was grateful because God showcased His glory through the support of friends and driving opportunities with Uber and Lyft. He also continued to equip me in my ministry and help me to think outside of the box by creating a list of dream jobs, some of which included me being a coffee barista or a librarian. I desired to have a job that would allow me to enjoy my work without hindering my calling. As time passed, I applied for several positions, including a part-time librarian role and a coffee shop barista. Sure enough, by the end of August 2023, I received a call from the library I had applied for requesting a reference letter. Providing them with it, God granted me that dream job. A month later, God graced me with a new place to stay and a wonderful roommate!

Final Thoughts

Looking back, it feels like everything I lost was doubled, and I received more than I could have imagined. My friend, as a living witness, I want you to know when you go through trials and tests, it’s not to give up but to stand firm, knowing that God will never fail you. The story of Abraham serves as a reminder of God’s promises. As shared in the books of Genesis and Hebrew, you see Abraham has a phenomenal testimony, but he had to give up a lot, sacrifice, and leave his family to follow a path he didn’t fully understand for his testimony to be revealed. In this world, we will face various trials, but we must remain strong and firm, for God has overcome the world. And He has great things in store for us forever and always!
